CONCEPT
I was inspired after watching The Shape of Water in January 2018, particularly the soft colours and dreamy soundtrack by Alexandre Desplat, and began this piece immediately after I got home the same night. I then began to work on this intensively and finished my first version in the first month, and continued to iterate over the next year. As the focus of the piece, the woman is both human-like and monstrous. It relates to our complicated relationship with the oceans, and our unfortunate human tendency to assume our ego and intelligence are above all other beings.
